Germany to pay Microsoft $800,000+ for Windows 7 updates

So as many of you know Windows 7 reached end of life on January 14th 2020. So basically no more updates for Windows 7 which is a HUGE security risk. Microsoft out of the goodness of their hearts allow business or enterprise clients the ability to receive extended support for their Operating Systems. So Microsoft will continue to push out security updates for the companies that pay for it.

Well the German Federal Ministry decided not to update to Windows 10 and they have more than 33,000 computers on Windows 7. Microsoft charges $50 per computer for the 1st year of support. There are always many companies and governments that take Microsoft up on their offer for extended support because people are afraid to upgrade Operating Systems or compatibility reasons.

Ironically late last year the same German Ministry stated that they were hellbent on reducing their dependencies on specific IP companies and especially Microsoft. My guess is that they knew what was coming on January 14th and were pissed.
