Amazon in the news again - Bezos selling stock - Amazon taxes paid

So Amazon is in the news again for a few reasons. This can be a touchy subject because people love Amazon Prime and I do too. But at what point do we take a step back and realize it's too good to be true?

So let's look at the year 2018. Amazon made more than $11 billion in profits. Do you know how much they paid in taxes that year? If you guys anything over zero % you are wrong. That's right Amazon, the billion dollar company, paid ZERO dollars in taxes in 2018.

With that being said lets take a look at the year 2019. Amazon made over $13 billion. Amazon claims it paid over a $1 billion in Federal Tax Income. But the are good at wording things because they only actually paid $162 million. Which is bonkers because that is 1.2%. Can I please only pay 1.2% for my taxes America? PLEASE!?!?! yeah didn't think so.

Amazon said the same old story of, hey guys don't be mad at us we followed all federal and state laws and didn't everything 100% right. So don't be mad at us that we only paid 1.2%.

Now the TCJA states that Amazon should be paying 21% and if they actually did that would mean they would have paid $2.8 billion. Could you image what our economy would be like if we have an extra $2.8 billion laying around to help I don't know, cops, firefighters, roads, hospitals, schools, everything? And that is just from Amazon guys. Add Google, Microsoft, Apple to mix and we would have the greatest country in the world. But also if Amazon was forced to pay their 21% then we probably wouldn't have the amazing Amazon Prime same day delivery. Which in all fairness would probably mean Amazon would scale down a little but come on guys.

On to the next bit of news about Amazon. Jeff Bezos.. You know the CEO of Amazon who is worth billions. Last week he sold $4 billion of his Amazon stock. That's billion with a "B" people. Now who knows why he did it, but we have the internet so we can all speculate and have a good time assuming about other people's lives. Some say his new girlfriend has expensive tastes and they are buying a new mansion. Some say it's because Amazon is a bubble right now and he is cashing out while it's still high. Who knows, but the good news is that he will pay taxes on it of about $1 billion.
