With the world's current situation right now, everyone's daily routine has surely upturned. I personally have never been aware of how much time I can spend browsing the bottomless pages of social media, rewatching fictional series or even just staring at my window as I wait for snaps to distract me. But not until I came with a realization that something better must happen. To make the most out of my time, I searched for some quality activities to do while at home and tried to do them for at least a week and see if they will bring some change and positivity. In this post, I will share those activities that have been effective in bringing change to my life during lockdown.
1. Journaling

Journal writing has been amazing to me. In this activity, I get to release my pent-up emotions and thoughts which greatly helps in stress management. However, in doing so, I recommend that you use pen and paper instead of journal or note applications in mobile phones. For me, handwriting can make you more engaged and expressive and it is also a way to rest yourself from radiation. Journal writing can be a bit difficult at the start especially if you’re not much of a writer yourself. You can start at writing few sentences in your first days. When I started doing this, I set three sentences minimum per day. This goes on until I noticed that I am able to write almost two to three paragraphs in my journal. Doing this activity allows creative juices working which is great for our mind and develops your writing skills which are helpful if you have a blog.
2.Learn how to code

The cyberspace offers lots of free learning resources about coding. However, I used freecodecamp.org as a starting point. And before I know it, I am already having fun to code. I think this is the very best time to code since we have much more time to spare. It can be a little bit intimidating at start due to its complexities, but trust me it is much more complex than that (jokingly). Learning how to code adds up to your career flexibility as this activity offers benefits and opportunities in the industry where technology is rapidly evolving.

3. Meditate

Meditation is very essential in having a healthy mind. It involves proper breathing techniques that can help reduce stress. Anxiety related issues also clear up as you meditate a week or two. You’ll feel brand new after every session of meditation. I started meditating two weeks ago, and I would say that I should have done it much earlier because of the tremendous change that it caused me. As per my experience, I've noticed that my awareness and focus have been increasing. There are different methods on how to meditate which are searchable online or you may download apps that will guide you in the process. I would greatly suggest you try to download Headspace as it offers great meditation guide.
4. Watch documentary films

Documentary films provide real life stories based on observations and research. It raises awareness on the different issues that the society faces. The emotions, struggles, and stories bring a special flavor that no typical mainstream film can top notch. It is also a great way to bond with your family as you get to open up discussions on the topics the film addresses. This is a great avenue for learning especially that schools right now are close.
5. Exercise!

The months we spent inside our homes due to COVID-19 pandemic has obviously made us less active. We gotta move those limbs and heads once in a while to stay fit and healthy. We may not be able to go to gym for workouts or to parks for jogging but we can still be physically fit in our own homes. Exercising offers much of health benefits such as enhanced immune system, improved mental health, a good posture and a fit body. I can say that exercising is one of those activities that keeps me feel active and alive. It produces positive energy in my body that makes me forward-looking. When doing exercise, you need to establish a workout plan that you must do regularly. Its gravity has to be gradually increasing to see a more favorable result.
