Old School Runescape - A Nostalgic Kick + GIVEAWAY!

OSRS Login Screen

If you're into PC gaming, then you are bound to have come across this screen when you were growing up... or still even to this day!  Developed and published by Jagex Studios, Runescape stands tall as one of the most popular PC games to ever exist.

Runescape has been a staple in my life for over half of it, and I still continue to play to this day!  Runescape came across some issues with an update to revamp their combat systems back in late 2012 called the "Evolution of Combat".  Runescape lost a great majority of their subscription base after this update, as players did not like the combat updates with new graphics, techniques, etc.  Thus, Old School Runescape was born after player voting was tallied back in mid-February, 2013.

I am not sponsored by anyone or anything mentioned in this article.

OSRS Main Page

Old School Runescape, or OSRS, is an MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online role-playing game.  The game is played on a PC, and could probably run on a log-powered old school COMPAQ computer.  The gameplay input is point-and-click, meaning you click your mouse and your character will perform an action.  Players gain experience in an array of skills all throughout Gielinor, the Runescape realm.

OSRS Skills
No... these are not my stats!

The skills a player can train are based off of three main groups - combat for killing monsters, gathering for collecting items to use later on, and artisian for crafting items.  The higher level you are in each of these categories, the more powerful/able you become to complete higher-tiered gameplay.  You can view a list of all the skills OSRS here if you want to read more about them!  My personal favorite skills are Slayer and Smithing!  You can also complete Quests, Achievement Diary tasks, and a wide variety of Minigames!

OSRS Grand Exchange

Given that OSRS is an MMORPG, you have the ability to interact with players in each world, whether it be just standing in a bank training your skills or fighting different monsters.  Players from all over the globe come together to play their favorite game with one another and it's truly awe-inspiring.  OSRS players have a sense of community and pride when it comes to their game.  Of course, as with any game, there are a few bad apples and toxic players.  Luckily, OSRS gives you the option to report and block these people, reporting them to Jagex staff and blocking them allows you to mute the player's messages from appearing in your chat box.  You can also join Clan Chats, which are mini communities within the game.  Clan Chats are a great way to stay involved with your favorite Runescape video producer or chit-chat with your friends!

To some, OSRS may seem like a game that died out years ago.  To me, OSRS is still one of my favorite games that I continue to enjoy.  The pixelated graphics and 50 FPS game still pulls me in and I still have yet to max out my account completely.  I know this article is short, but I just wanted to go over the basics of what Runescape is all about and why I enjoy it!

***** GIVEAWAY *****

If you play OSRS yourself, let me know in the comments down below!

I am going to be giving away 1M gp (gold pieces; Runescape currency) to 5 different people who comment their RSN (Runescape Username) and their favorite skill!

I will then select individuals via a random generator add you in-game (have your private chat ON) and let you know that you've won!

Good luck!
