A Simplified Look at Yield Farming

By rah | rah | 2 Apr 2026

For this morning's deep(er) dive I have decided to take a look at yield farming and to be honest it is more about self-education than anything else and for this reason I have kept it relatively simple. What I have recently uncovered concerning the end of staking on StableCoins, as enforceable by both the EU's MiCA and the incoming CLARITY Act in the US, drove me in this direction as I am looking for a potential and realistic growth alternative for my assets.

I first came across the term a few years ago when PVM was posting a lot about Harvest Finance and at the time his analysis was beyond me (sorry PVM, I was such a newbie), but it seems to be a viable alternative to historic staking which has now been rug-pulled from us.

Yield farming, also known as liquidity mining, is a DeFi strategy where users allocate their crypto assets to earn rewards, interest, or fees by providing liquidity to decentralised finance platforms. It involves depositing cryptocurrency into DeFi protocols or on lending platforms to earn returns. While some platforms use smart contracts to automate yield farming, optimising returns without manual intervention, though this introduces algorithmic risk the general approach that distinguishes it from passive staking is that yield farming is predominantly active as it requires users to strategically move assets across platforms to maximise yields, which can include interest, transaction fees, or governance tokens. The practice motivates users to supply liquidity, which is essential for the functioning of decentralised exchanges and lending platforms.

The appeal of yield farming is its potentially high returns compared to traditional finance and it provides a source of semi-passive income opportunities for crypto holders.

And so there you go in a short summarised form what I have found out.

As always stay safe and well my friends.
