QRL (The Quantum Resistant Ledger) is a decentralized quantum resistant blockchain. In my previous article about QRL's addition of a quantum resistant communication channel, I elaborated on the issues and future necessity of adding quantum resistance. So I will skip that subject in this article.
In this article I discuss the announcement of QRL's new project: "Ethereum Enklave". In this project, QRL will provide Quantum Security for Ethereum wallets and all tokens you can hold in those wallets. This includes the possibility to secure all your ERC20 tokens that you keep in your Ethereum wallet. In a later stage, the same service will be provided by QRL for other smartcontract platforms.
In short: The Ethereum wallet that is secured by Enklave, will use both your Ethereum signature, as a quantum resistant XMSS signature to allow transactions to be sent from your wallet.
Enklave will be an addition to existing Ethereum walltes. The wallet addition is build by using a smartcontract on Ethereum. You will need a QRL address to provide what is necessary for the master XMSS smart contract, which in turn will store One Time Signatures (OTS) indexes. OTS are part of QRL's (NIST embraced) quantum resistant XMSS signature scheme. Quantum computers will be able to break the Ethereum signature scheme, but will fail to break QRL's siganture scheme. That way it will be impossible to hack the Enklave-protected wallets.
Protecting tokens that are stored in your wallet on a quantum resistant level, needs to be done manually by wallet owners. If you send tokens to your Enklave-protected wallet, they are only automatically protected on a quantum resistant level if you provide your XMSS address in that transaction, or if you add Enklave protection after you received them in your wallet.
This means that quantum resistance will be optional for your wallet content. Sending the tokens that are protected by Enklave will need an extra fee in QRL tokens. So for daily use, these transactions are not economically interesting. Other tokens that you have not protected using Enklave, can be send as you always do using your Ethereum wallet. Enklave is meant to future proof your long-term ETH holdings. Additionally,Enklave serves a double purpose as an introduction to QRL.
Another part of the Enklave project is the QRL Oracle. The oracle is needed "to track and count QRL moving between the QRL mainnet blockchain and Ethereum. This will be maintained and controlled by the QRL foundation."
"This opens up QRL to be multi-chain. QRL will be able to move freely between the QRL mainnet blockchain and the Ethereum network. Some benefits include atomic multi-way asset exchanges and payments."
After the realization of the Ethereum Enklave project (which is expected to launch this year), the project will be expanded as The Enklve Collective, which will be available on Tezos, Stellar, Tron, EOS and RSK.
