There is a common myth that all wars were religious. But this is a fundamentally wrong point of view.

Of course, religion was often used as a cover or justification for wars, especially in ancient times and the Middle Ages. In the deep essence, the roots of conflicts often lay in the struggle for power, resources and influence.

Why religion is a convenient cover for wars:

1. Legitimization of power: A ruler who declares war "in the name of God" receives moral support from the people and spiritual leaders.

2. Mobilization of the masses: If the enemies are declared "infidels" or "Satanists", then it is easier to unite the people for war.

3. Division into "us - them": Manipulation of religion reinforces the division into "us" and "them", justifying cruelty.

4. Distraction: A convenient way to hide real goals - the seizure of land, resources, power.

Examples:
The Crusades: proclaimed as the liberation of the Holy Land, but behind them were the interests of the Papacy and feudal lords who wanted power, influence and wealth.

Religious wars in France: Catholics and Huguenots fought, but behind the religious facade hid the political ambitions of noble clans.

The Ottoman conquests: were carried out under the banner of Islam, but had clearly expressed geopolitical goals - control over trade routes and territories.

Modern analogies:
Even in the 20th-21st centuries, the ideas of "holy struggle" (jihad, "struggle for faith", "defense of traditional values", etc.) are used to justify conflicts in which the main motives are power, control, resources and intimidation.

Conclusion:
Religion often became only a pretext, and not the real cause of war. To understand this means to see deeper and not to succumb to superficial explanations.
