Los Angeles County Arboretum &Botanic Garden.
Continuing the theme of Pasadena, I want to tell you and show you the local arboretum. I got there by accident. There was a break between shifts, and I just happened to be in Pasadena. I come closer and see an open door in the fence, calmly entered. And when I left, I realized that I had entered exit, but in general, the entrance is paid and costs $ 15. But I didn't blame myself too much, I accepted this free walk as a gift from above. In English, the garden is called Los Angeles County Arboretum&Botanic Garden. It was founded in 1947 on historical lands belonging to indigenous Indians.
The arboretum's website says: "Los Angeles County recognizes that we occupy lands that were originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizhi and Chumash peoples. We honor and pay tribute to their elders and descendants — past, present, and future — as they continue to manage these lands and waters. We recognize that the colonization of settlers has led to land grabbing, disease, enslavement, slavery, resettlement, broken promises, genocide, and multi-generational trauma. This recognition demonstrates our responsibility and commitment to truth, healing, and reconciliation, as well as uplifting the stories, culture, and community of Los Angeles County's Indigenous people. We are grateful for the opportunity to live and work on these ancestral lands. We strive to develop and maintain relationships with indigenous peoples and local tribal governments, and there is a transfer underway...
The arboretum occupies 127 acres. The arboretum plants are grouped geographically: South American, Mediterranean, South African, Australian, and Asian-North American. There are many beautiful locations in the arboretum: a Water garden, a Prehistoric and jungle garden, Local oak trees, a Herb Garden, a collection of palm trees and bamboo.
Another gem of the arboretum is Lake Baldwin,
which surrounds the Queen Anne Cottage. The lake is home to many species of waterfowl, including ducks and Canada geese, turtles.
The gardens are home to a flock of peacocks, which are descendants of the first 3 pairs of birds introduced by Baldwin from India in 1879. Today, feral populations persist mainly in California and Florida. Peacocks live in gardens as free birds when they want to come, but they can also leave the territory. By the way, the peacock is a symbol of Arcadia, the place where the arboretum is located.
Since 1936, dozens of films and television programs have been shot in the arboretum, including fragments of two films "Jurassic Park". Some of the Tarzan adventure films and many others were partially filmed here.
Queen Anne's cottage is also located here, and many believe that the cottage is haunted.
Some claim to have seen the ghost of Lucky Baldwin and his wife. Visitors claim to have heard groans coming from the house where Lucky Baldwin's wife died of cancer, strange smells of cooking and walking in the garden at night, saw various strange anomalies.
