Today, my youngest came home from school and said, "I have a license... They told me at school." It turns out that they were told today about their rights, how to behave when meeting with ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). They handed out red cards and reminders of how to behave in such cases. It was said that anyone, no matter what status they were in, had rights. The red cards read: "I don't want to talk to you, answer questions, or sign any documents based on the 5th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I do not give permission to enter my house based on the 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, unless you have a warrant signed by a judge with my name on it. I do not give permission to search my belongings based on the 4th Amendment of the Constitution."
They were taught that if someone came to their house, they had the right not to open the door, not to answer questions... That they are safe in the car, at home and at school, no one will let ICE workers into the school. They talked about the 4th and 5th amendments of the US Constitution. They taught that all people, regardless of their status, have rights, have the right to a lawyer, have the right not to testify against themselves and to defend themselves in court.
I really like it. People should learn to know and use their rights from childhood. And they should be taught this in school, and not molded into obedient and insecure, faceless, afraid to object puppets.
It's a pity that in Russia they don't teach that you are a person with rights. After all, children are told "about the important things." That dying for the motherland is more important than rights.
God has given man freedom of choice. And no other person has the right to take it away from you. I remain free and wish you all the same, to be free!
