Yesterday I spoke my (in)mate again.
I cannot say I was in the mood for some chatting and excuses. It is what he does. It always starts the same "sorry I am..."
No, I do not believe everything he says. Why should I? We live different lives, in different parts of the world and have a different view on life and on what is right, wrong or normal.
Americans seem to make a habit out of saying they have European anchestors. To be honest I think "so what?"
(My two ex sons in law did the same.)
Is it something great to have a German granddad or mom or Dutch grandparents?
I never start a conversation with telling about what kind of nationality my (grand)parents have or who emigrated to which country. I do not see it as worth mentioning or something to show off it. They are not me plus most of my family is not the kind you would like to have for an aunt, uncle, as a sibling or parent. Some of them are criminals and should stay in prison. Molesting children, women, not paying taxes, scam etc. etc. they all did it.
My family members are no inmates because they were lucky to live in the right country or emigrated right in time to an other country.
This all made me think what would have become out of this mate of mine if his mother had stayed in Germany instead of moving with her kids to the USA. Actually I know the answer. He would have grown up differently. The chance he would end up in prison and spent days in the hole would be nihil.
