Polygon vs Immutable X - The best blockchains for crypto games

Polygon and Immutable X are the two popular Ethereum L2 solutions and they are also my personal favorite blockchains for crypto games. In this article, I will talk about the disadvantages and advantages of both blockchains.

Low gas fees

Ethereum has always had the issue of having expensive gas fees for one transaction. In its peak, it sometimes costed people 100-800 dollars' worth of ETH for a complex transaction and 10-20 for a simple one. This is obviously a large issue for gamers who are looking to easily on-board and interact with blockchain games. Fortunately for them, Polygon and Immutable X solves this issue. Polygon only charges a couple of cents per transaction, making it a much suitable option for blockchain gamers. Immutable X is even better, with it having a whopping $0 dollar gas fee without compromising security.

In terms of gas fees, Immutable X obviously wins.

Blockchain Functionality

While both blockchains have most blockchain functionality, Immutable X is lacking some key features. Unlike Polygon, you cannot swap tokens while still being on the Immutable X blockchain and you have to bridge to Ethereum to swap. Polygon, however, has all the functionalities of a normal functional blockchain.

In this category, Polygon beats out Immutable X.

Popularity

Both blockchains are fairly popular. However, Polygon wins in this category by a landslide. Being ranked 8th on CMC, it does not disappoint in popularity.

On-boarding new users

Both blockchains are great at onboarding new users onto their platform. However, while both blockchains have fully functional bridges, I have to give on-boarding to Polygon. I say this because you could bridge from almost any network to Polygon. You can also directly get Polygon on a CEX and transfer it directly to your decentralized wallet. Immutable X, however, can only bridge from Ethereum back and forth.

In terms of onboarding new users, Polygon wins.

Gamer Attractability

While both blockchains are appealing to gamers, Immutable X seems a tad more attractive than Polygon. Immutable X is designed to have zero gas fees and it makes it easy to send and trade NFT's for free. No gas fees are obviously a win for gamers looking for a blockchain project.

Conclusion

Personally I am a huge fan of both blockchains and I believe that both have their own trade-offs and advantages. Currently, however, I would say Polygon has more current potential in this space due to have low enough gas fees, being very popular, and having all the functionalities of a blockchain.
