I just wanted to give you a quick update on my recent post: Does Presearch think I'm a robot?
As often on Twitter, when you complain publicly about a company, they tend to get back to you and address your concerns faster. I sent out a couple tweets to Presearch asking why my PRE Level was going down and how "unfair" and "unreliable" I thought their calculating system was, these were joined by other users from the community, and they eventually replied.
As a reminder, Presearch uses an algorithm called RVS, Rewards Verification System, to analyse the users' searches and somehow determine whether or not they're being honest and legit with their use of the search engine, or if they're just spamming it to get tokens. My complaint is that, while Presearch claims to be private, there's no way to do such a thing without a deep analyse of the user's behavior, building a very detailed user profile, making it almost as bad as Google. I use Presearch every day for my regular searches and my PRE Level keeps dropping, meaning their algorithm thinks my searches are not authentic, so there's definitely a problem here.
I don't know how the algorithm works, and Presearch won't communicate on that, but I did get this reply to one of my tweets:
This is definitely good news, as it confirms they are aware that there's a problem with their algorithm and they're working on fixing it. But it still raises some concerns as "many more different factors" could mean a lot of things.
It would be nice to have some more transparency on this feature, as, to me, it is a make or break situation for privacy. I'm definitely not convinced a bot can identify a "natural" human search behavior, and I'm curious to know how they plan on doing this in a private, reliable and fair way.
I can't wait for this new RVS to be released and, hopefully, explained by Presearch!
