Hello everyone,
In this new blog, I will be documenting my journey towards achieving better financial security. If there's one thing to take from 2020, it's that no one is safe, no job is secure and relying on one income source might have been working until now, but it is definitely too fragile in today's world.
I drastically changed my career path in early 2020, going from software engineering in a big multinational company to freelancing as a videographer, and I'm not sure this was the best year to completely change my life and start something from scratch like I did. The struggles I've faced during 2020 confirmed what I had been thinking for a while now: I need more that just my "every day job" to feel comfortable looking at my bank account.
Hence my resolution for 2021: By the end of this year, I will have more than one stream of income secured. At least one more. And this does not necessarily mean that I plan on getting an extra $5,000 a month from this second source by the end of the year, but my goal is to generate something regular, that will most likely start small this year but will grow over the years, and eventually help secure my family's financial future.
I already have some ideas, that I will be detailing in future posts. From investing to selling digital products, from diversifying my photo/video offer to writing more on Publish0x, nothing will be left aside and everything will be considered. Building a business from scratch takes a while and a lot of work, so creating multiple businesses in a year is definitely a challenge, but it's a much needed one in my opinion.
You don't really have free time per se as a freelancer, unless you make it for yourself: either you're working, or you're looking for clients. So my plan is to secure a couple clients that will give me work regularly, and enough time to focus on the rest.
I will be documenting every step of the way on this blog, from my raw ideas to (hopefully) my newly created income by the end of the year, through brainstorming sessions and monthly reports. The next posts will cover my plans and ideas, so make sure to give me a follow if you want to come with me on this journey! And I will gladly take any advice or idea you might have in the comments below, so don't hesitate to tell me what you're thinking!
