It's finally been 35 days since I started hoarding Tezos. I started off using Coinbase because of Coinbase Learn & Earn, but I found better places to store Tezos to earn rewards so I have since moved in. I now hold all my Tezos in ZenGo and get a decent return if 5.98%. This beats the 5.31% that Coinbase is currently offering for storing Tezos on their platform.
With that being said, during the short time I was with Coinbase my Tezos did earn some rewards, so even though I moved on from Coinbase they still owe me what I had earned the few days I was there. Today 7¢ worth of Tezos was distributed back into my Coinbase account. Once I get some more Tezos I will efficiently move this over to ZenGo as well.
Now, this may not seem like much, but the Tezos I was holding all came from swapping out crypto I've earned online. Essentially, making this passive income. If you follow my other posts you'll know that I love passive income streams, no matter what size.
My final thoughts on all this is that it is indeed legit, because I know a few people were skeptical and didn't want to hold Tezos long term. We've seen the recent boom and I honestly wouldn't blame someone for selling and collecting profits. The only problem I have is that in order to earn rewards with Tezos you need at least one Tezos (XTZ). I'm not saying it is hard to get at least 1 Tezos to begin taking, but it is difficult to take advantage of compounding on fractional amounts should you ever choose to switch platforms to stake your Tezos on. (Think of it this way, my Coinbase account was at 0 Tezos when I earned today's reward. Now I have 7¢ in Tezos on Coinbase. This is less than the required amount to begin staking and it is far less than a reasonable amount to worry about sending to a different wallet. Yucky fees!)
Will I continue to earn rewards on Tezos? Of course! This is basically a dividend for crypto and that gets me hyped! I got into Tezos at $1.22 and seeing it spike up to $3.70 has been exciting. I've since found that I really like BlockFi giving 8.6% which technically beats the Tezos reward rate on ZenGo. This could be the potential swap in the future, so stay tuned!
