How often a day do you unlock your phone? If you're like me it can be as few as ten times and up to too many to count!
SlideJoy is one more way I'm going to build up your streams of passive income, so you can make as much as possible while doing as little as possible! The business model is straightforward. SlideJoy adds a second screen to the process of unlocking your phone, this screen contains an advertisement and a small portion of the earnings are passed on to you.
Now if you are like me and you unlock your phone a ridiculous amount of times a day, you are probably thinking that this extra screen will be really annoying. I had the exact same concerns, but the reason I have chosen to talk about SlideJoy is because that actually isn't the case. The image below is the extra lock screen that will be placed on your phone.

You can swipe left to engage with the content, up to see more content, or right to proceed to unlock your phone as normal. Being that it is as simple as one extra swipe I have found that I don't even notice the presence of SlideJoy on my phone, and that's why I recommend it. SlideJoy counts itself among numerous apps that operate similar systems but I find that others are much more intrusive to the actual use of your device and your daily life. Also it doesn't seem to take me a substantial amount of time to get into my phone. I would be easily frustrated if it had any kind of significant loading time but it honestly comes out to roughly 1-2 seconds. By the time you've thought about the time it's already gone.
SlideJoy does offer other ways of earning, surveys, app downloads, etc. But they aren't passive, you will have to put in work. And if you are going to perform these kinds of tasks I'm sure there are better platforms where you will be paid more and be able to cashout sooner. So I wouldn't recommend it for that, and that doesn't fit with our goals here.
So what do SlideJoy earnings look like? They're not extremely substantial to be honest. If it wasn't so passive it wouldn't be worth it. You accumulate your earnings as "Carats" which are essentially points you exchange for gift cards. SlideJoy used to be able to pay out to Paypal, but in the last few months the option has been removed and you are limited to Gift Cards or Cellphone top ups. These methods are extremely region-dependent. I'm Canadian and have access to options that I find useful such as Amazon, Visa, Starbucks, Boston Pizza, and more. But I am definitely hoping for the return of Paypal in short order as it would the most flexible cashout method.
A normal person is looking at accumulating roughly 25 Carats a day, 1000 Carats being the equivalent of $1 USD. So you're looking at a few cents a day. Not much if you ask me, but once again there is no effort involved, so in my mind that means there is no reason not to sign up and collect your gift card every couple of months. What about data? You're not going to use SlideJoy if this thing is using up your precious internet right? SlideJoy uses minimal data. Over 1 month it used 6 MB total which for most people is completely insignificant. SlideJoy won't be counting every swipe you do, just because you unlock your phone and open the app doesn't mean you'll see your earnings have increased. I believe this is to combat people simply unlocking their phones over and over again to gain points. But you will find that you gain points naturally during normal usage of your phone
One, admittedly anecdotal, thing I've noticed in my extensive time with the app is that it is rare for me to actually receive full on ads like the one seen above. I find that the majority of the time the app is trying to show me an article, either news or opinion. Which means it's not too rare that it intrigues me and I end up clicking on it out of genuine interest. This is really rare in my experience with anything else that advertises to me.
Unfortunately the app is currently Android Only, available on the Google Play Store. This seems to be a common theme when it comes to a lot of passive income apps, they don't lend themselves to IOS apparently. And when you sign up you will be given the option to earn your points for yourself or to donate them to charity via "Hero" mode. Make your own personal choice but I find it commendable that they have the option available.
Normally, SlideJoy's earnings would be nothing to sniff at, and I probably wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't so easy to ignore. But if you combine this with my many other sources of income you will see all of your earnings add up and become a substantial amount! If you're a crypto enthusiast like myself you can take your gift cards and trade them with others for cryptocurrency or for cash for investments. All in all I recommend it, because it embodies exactly what this blog is about. Getting paid for nothing is hard to come by, and this is about as close to doing nothing as it gets!
Edit: Since this post Slidejoy has discontinued operatons outside of the US effective May 1,2020. I will do my best to update if this changes.
