Chapter Thirty-One 

1. The vast, expansive landscape; the floor of a bloody, organic garage.

2. Candy wrapper skeletons; sugar bones melting in the heat.

3. Rattlesnake pomade; ocotillo hairbrush.

4. The sky is a lemon tree that's been in the oven too long.

5. The horizon is on fire. Smoke is rising from the dust field for no reason. The map is only accurate when you read it upside-down. We must be in Mexico.

6. Fake Jesus with a dirty shirt and no teeth; a troubled man in dancing trousers.

7. Servants of the Most High, the Almost High, or the Way Too High?

8. I am not the way, the truth, or the life. And neither are you.

9. A river; a neon rattlesnake.

1. El vasto y extenso paisaje; el suelo de un garaje orgánico y sangriento.

2. Esqueletos de envoltorios de caramelos; huesos de azúcar derritiéndose con el calor.

3. Pomada de serpiente de cascabel; cepillo de pelo de ocotillo.

4. El cielo es un limonero que ha estado demasiado tiempo en el horno.
