Erasing Suicidal Thoughts: My Personal Experience

By Olivia01 | Olivia-life-lessons | 11 Oct 2023

It is no doubt that life is hard. This fact is what we know already for years. It is Human Nature to always find a path of least resistance due to this hardness of life. This is the reason why so many people become suicidal & usually go ahead with committing suicide to feel free from the physical or emotional pain they're going through as at that time.

Though there have been constant debate about the legality or validity of suicide for people experiencing a non-reversible physical pain. While I may not be able to justify that because of the sensitivity and uniqueness, my post today is focused on those undergoing emotional pain/regret. I want to share few strategies on how I overcame suicidal thoughts that always pop up in my mind. I hope it helps someone here or that you share with someone that is going through bouts of suicidal thoughts.

These are the strategies outlined below;

Write it down: write about your past failures/mistakes that is triggering the suicidal thoughts. Write it down completely. As you're writing, take breaks. Make sure you write everything out. As you do this, you'll feel some weight go off your being. I feel it happened in my case.

Recurrent postponement: Nobody likes to postpone or hear that events is being postponed several times. The only time I guess recurrent postponement is useful is when we postpone suicidal thoughts or on a larger scale, thoughts that have sinister motive.
When the suicidal thoughts pops up in my head fiercely, I quickly postpone it by saying to myself: "Alright, you know what ? I'll think about this later"
When it comes up later, I postpone it. Doing this make me to live for one more day and another day after that.

As time went on, I get better and the frequency of the suicidal thoughts reduces drastically simply because I denied it a dwelling place in my mind.

Go out often & meet new people: Do I need to stress this? I guess not. An idle mind going through episodes of emotional pain breeds evil thoughts.
Don't stay idle inside a room all day all week. Go out & talk to people not just your friends or family or colleagues, but new people. These people might tell you something new - a novel information that might engage you such that you want to explore it deeply. This unconsciously preoccupy your mind & suicidal thoughts will take a back seat in a somewhat 10,000 hall capacity of your mind & after it gets way tired, it uses the exit door. In my case, I had truck load of information that I'm still exploring till this day.

Self affirmation: In all the years I've spent on earth, I've realised that as humans we consciously ruminate about past hurtful mistakes & so curse ourselves much more than we think about good things & praise ourselves. We ought to normalise the process of saying nice things to ourselves after we wake up & before retiring to bed daily by looking in the mirror & saying things in the line of: "I am [your name]. I know I'm powerful, I'm resilient and I can achieve whatever thing I want to regardless of my present situation, so help me God" This is speaking positivity into existence. Suicidal thoughts find it hard to dwell rent free in a mind that is proclaiming this positivity constantly.

Suicidal thoughts can affect your quality of life. If your quality of life is affected, then you might live in absent-mindedness which will cause more unintended harm like tripping while walking or get hit by a hit & run vehicle, cutting yourself with a knife while cooking etc.
Honestly, erasing Suicidal thoughts is no cake walk but hey, there's no harm in trying. It won't happen overnight but it'll happen only if you are intentional about it. I wish well on anyone going through this phase. It's never easy. I've had my own share that nearly tore me apart in the embryonic stage but I'm grateful I overcame. You too can!

Cheers!
Peace, love & light.
