One of the most mysterious coins of the European Union. When I picked it up, I realized that nothing was clear. And if you don't know Greek, you won't be able to understand what it is dedicated to. Therefore, as a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I decided to investigate and understand what it is. The history of the coin is very interesting.

To begin with, the coin is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the annexation of the Dodecanese archipelago to Greece. What kind of archipelago is this?

The word comes from the Greek "12 islands". Although in fact there are as many as 20 of them. At different times they belonged to different states. And over the past 100 years they have belonged to the Ottoman Empire, Italy, England and finally Greece.

What is depicted on the coin. In the center is a rose. Her image was taken from ancient coins of the island of Rhodes. And around there are stylized waves.

Below you can see the original coins.

This is the case when one coin contains a history that goes back hundreds of centuries. As well as a tribute to the ancient culture of his people!
