The generosity model is based on the concept of giving good ideas freely, that it is better in business and life to be free and generous with your ideas that you think could benefit others.
The concept is that if you see an idea for someone's problem, or addition or of next level that you think could really help them, you don’t hoard it unless they hire you, pay you or in other way reward you for this knowledge.
You tell them the idea and how you, or someone else, could help them achieve it. Make sure it is done in a casual way, remember you are coming in unprompted and there may be very good reasons why this has not occurred before. I usually like to take the following approach “ I think X could really help you so wanted to let you know about it”
But failingforward, they are just going to take all my good ideas and I get nothing out of it. Well let us look at the possible outcomes assuming they like the idea and want to use it.
Outcome 1. They use us to implment the idea with some reward attached. – Win
Outcome 2. They don’t use us this time but eventually thinks “if this person is thinking of such great ideas and doesn't even work with us, imagine if we were actually in a partnership!” – Longer term win
Outcome 3. They keep using us for good idea but refuse to use us – Win by losing, you learn what type of partner they would have been and ultimately save energy and time
Anyway, just a little model that I like to use in business and have been finding fairly successful on HIVE to, so maybe next time you get a great idea, instead of thinking about how you could paid, maybe think about what would happen if you just shared.
