Is BRAVE Browser really for our privacy?

By noBeans | noBeans - Crypto | 6 Jun 2020

Everyone's favorite web browser Brave has been recently in a lot of news. Be it the staggering amount of new subscribers it has amassed or the fact that Joe Rogan uses it as well. But all is not good and well there have been some posts on the internet that have been criticizing Brave.

If you go to the brave browser subreddit you will find out that a lot of users are having troubles in receiving the BAT they earned. Even if they receive it, it is far from the displayed value on the home screen. Although the home screen says estimated value but estimated and real value should not have a difference of over 50% as has been in the case of some users. Below you can see the screenshot of users posting about their problems.

You can see in the above image the first four posts deals with no BAT received and there is even a sticky post for no BAT payments for MAY.

Refer to the below tweet that deals into another shady activity.

And here is a tweet from Brendan Eich, Co-Founder of Mozilla Foundation and CEO of Brave Software.

If you take a look at the whole conversation you will see that it is less a case of referral link and more a case of autocomplete. But nonetheless this is damaging to the reputation, ethics and legitimacy of an organization whose whole mission is about security and privacy of its users.

Some users have also commented about Brave's association with Uphold (and that they will continue with Uphold in the future as well) as the wallet and the fact that Uphold requires KYC to withdraw the BAT. This KYC defeats the whole purpose of security, privacy and decentralization.

This whole article is not to bash the browser or the company but to show another side of the same coin. Maybe its a genuine mistake from their end and they'll correct it or maybe as users grow we will see more of these problems.
