Governor of Wyoming Mark Gordon has revealed via Twitter on September 17 that the US state had become the first to approve a banking charter for digital assets.
- Several Wyoming officials, including House Representatives, Senate Minority Leader Chris Rothfuss and Avanti founder and CEO Caitlin Long, collaborated for the legislation
- Governor Gordon was enthusiastic about the charter, saying that Wyoming is “taking its rightful place globally as a fintech leader”
- San Francisco-based exchange Kraken recently became the United States’ first cryptocurrency exchange to be approved as a bank, with the first office being in Wyoming
- The banking charter will allow cryptocurrency exchanges to flourish, offering more services, and will help bridge fiat and crypto platforms
