On June 9, Fidelity Digital Assets published the results of a survey that was conducted between November 2019 and March 2020, and the results indicate that interest is rising in both the sport and derivatives market. 

The survey was conducted by Greenwich Associates, and two of the biggest takeaways is the doubling of crypto futures call options and the growth in positive sentiment surrounding the market. 

22% of surveyed investors in the US had invested in the asset class via the futures market, which is more than double the 9% of 2019. Better market infrastructure was offered as one of the reasons for this uptick.

Just over one-third of institutional investors in the US and Europe hold various digital assets and/or derivative products, with 6 out of 10 believing that they have a place in portfolios. Interestingly, this is more prominent in Europe, where 45% of investors had digital asset investments. By contrast, that figure is 27% in the United States. Bitcoin is the most popular asset, followed by Ether.

But a more telling indicator of interest is that almost 80% of these investors found something appealing in cryptocurrencies. 

36% appreciated the lack of correlation to other markets, 34% said that it was innovative, and 33% said it had a chance of good returns. A quarter of European investors also saw value in the freedom from government intervention - only 10% of US investors felt the same.

Grayscale investment has also shown much greater inflow in 2020. the firm reported its biggest inflow in Q1 2020, drawing in $30 million. The firm’s assets have grown tenfold since Q1 2019. It has furthered its position in the cryptocurrency space, buying 9500 Bitcoin earlier this month and buying almost half of all Ethereum mined in 2020.
