The Rolex Monte Carlo Masters (ATP Tour 1000) has begun. Jannik Sinner has not yet overtaken Novak Djokovic as world number one, but he can close the gap. In addition to the South Tyrolean champion, three Italians will compete in the first Masters 1000 on clay of the season.

 These are Lorenzo Mussetti, Matteo Arnaldi and Matteo Berrettini, while Sinner, second in the ATP rankings and first in the race rankings, will still have to be patient if he wants to overtake Novak Djokovic in the world rankings. Jannik reached the semi-finals in Monte Carlo last year and if he wins the title again this year, he won't have enough points to overtake Djokovic.

 He lost to Djokovic in the second round in 2021 and to Zverev in the quarterfinals in 2022. He will be a starter at the Australian Open, the Miami Open and the Rolex Monte Carlo. He will debut in the second round against no. 27 Sebastian Korda or the n. 28 Alejandro Davidovic Fokina.
