Yesterday, the Gods Unchained team revealed a new set of cards dubbed the 'Welcome' set. This is a set of 70 cards which will be given to everyone for free! Anyone with an existing account will get all the cards at once on June 18th. But in the future, they plan to incorporate distribution of these cards to new players as part of the new player experience.

These cards will not exist on the blockchain and will not be available for sale or trade.

So What Do We Have Here?

You can view the full list of the Welcome set here - https://www.godsunchained.com/learn/cards (be sure to filter by Set -> Welcome) and here - https://gudecks.com/cards?set=welcome.

There are a total of 70 cards -- 30 Neutral with the rest scattered fairly evenly among the six Gods.

As a veteran player who has grown very tired of the current meta, any infusion of new cards is a boon for me! Not only am I excited to try out these cards with my decks, but I am also eager to see what sort of meta changes these new cards might bring to the game!

There are quite a few standout and/or interesting cards that make me want to fit them into a deck. And it's great to see some strong, low-cost Neutral cards like the Wild Hog and Vanguard Axewoman that will likely see play in many decks. I would certainly love to try out some Death Zoo with these creatures on my side! There are also a number of Tribal Creatures -- Vikings and Olympians in particular -- that may help revive the concept of Tribe Synergy decks (there are currently some Tribal decks, but they are relatively rare).

Grumblings have already begun in Discord over some seemingly overpowered cards such as Ransom and Charging Oryx. Both cards could certainly shakeup the Control meta. We'll have to see what happens with them this weekend.

Personally, I think that Light and Magic are going to be the big winners with this set, but there is plenty for deckbuilders to work with here for all the Gods! And if you plan on playing this weekend, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the full list and try and get some testing and practice time in once the cards land in our accounts!

Starter Decks Update

Perhaps even more exciting for new players will be the ability to edit the starter decks! Players will be able to change the Starter decks to include their own cards, and then save that new deck for use in play! Pretty awesome!
