Push back on Data Centers - what comes next might be even more terrifying
As communities stand up and vote to keep massive data centers from encroaching upon their communities, townships sign secret deals and the data center happens anyway. What happens then is frightening, electric demand skyrockets, water supplies are sucked up dropping water pressure for the communities and of course raising rates due to demand cycle billing.
When a large enough collective push back against these massive resource consumers (aka data centers) takes place the need for a new compute model will arise and I am afraid it is already being designed. Its common knowledge in the IT industry that compute (CPU based) has been a commodity business for a good two decades. As applications and data driven models change the compute engine from CPU to GPU or GPU/TPU offerings a new neocloud model could arise. Compute and access to massive compute power is what drives the AI economy!
Kudos to @Kovichni for starting me down this path of discovery. It really is a change to modern compute model. But its not the only one.
See everyone and I mean everyone has a powerful computer in their hand or within six feet of them right now. Yes I am talking about your mobile/Cell phone. Add in a laptop, iPad, Tablet you have several under utilized compute devices at your ready. Would you be willing to 'share' your under utilized compute devices to a fee? Think I am jumping to conclusions? Larry Fink of the Worlds Largest Asset Firm Blackrock shared the world is already short on compute. Theta was early to this model with their Agent driven peer-to-peer network model, which morphed into a new Neocloud model.
Blackrock is looking at providing 'Futures' to bring stable pricing to compute models. Keep in mind Futures here in the USA have had stable pricing since 1865 (don't believe me look it up on the CME website). And that market is coming later this year. Sure this will be for the large GPU players etc. I assume in my small feeble mind this will trickle down to under utilized assets owned by individuals at some time. My brain just jumped to UBI (Universal Basic Income) payments being predicated upon your compute engines completing your daily tasks, yikes talk about a dystopian future!
Do not misconstrue my comment that Theta network will displace Hyperscalers, no both models will be required to support all the new compute requirements moving forward, perhaps as soon as late in 2026.
Can this morph into an investible mega-trend? I am not sure at this time.
Summary
Decentralized networks like Theta EdgeCloud are one answer to this problem. Hyperscaler buildouts are another. Both will be needed.
