Marrakech : A tribute To The Red City

After the earthquake that struck the city of Marrakesh and its regions , leaving a huge number of victims, I decided to pay tribute to Marrakech, which is considered a touristic and cosmopolitan city. It occupies an important position in the country’s economy.

Marrakesh, the red city, a rose among the palm trees, this is how Moroccans sing about it because of its beauty.

Geography :

Marrakesh is located in southern Morocco at the foothills of the Atlantic Mountains, thirty kilometers away from it, 450 meters above sea level, and 327 kilometers away from the capital, Rabat. It is characterized by a semi-arid climate with mild, humid winters and hot, dry summers.

The city's area is estimated at about 230 square kilometers, and it is the fourth largest city in the country after Rabat, Fez, and Casablanca. It was described as "the red city" , spacious in its surroundings, combining heat, shade, snow, and palm trees.

History :

In 1147, the city of Marrakesh became a part of the Almohad state, and they considered it their capital and built many palaces and cultural centers.during the reign of the Almohads, Marrakesh was considered one of the most cultural and scientific Moroccan cities; many scholars, Arab and Andalusian writers lived in it. In 1269, the city of Marrakesh became under the rule of the marinids dynasty , but they neglected the city of Marrakesh a lot, and in 1551 the city of Marrakesh became the capital of the saidis dynasty who took care of it, and they built many buildings that contributed to its cultural development. The Alawite dynasty is the last to rule the city of Marrakech, which was officially annexed to the kingdom of Morocco after the announcement of its establishment, and the Alawites contributed to the restoration of many cultural monuments in Marrakech. They built a set of palaces  when it was their capital, before the Moroccan capital moved to Rabat after Morocco's independence.
