The artificial intelligence had changed our life and existence, yet, along the years it has been raising controversials. With its continuous development, anxiety and fears increase also. The world splits into two parties, between those who fear of its side effects and those who support its use taking into consideration its benefits to solve many existential problems. This fear emanates from not keeping the balance between artificial intelligence's positive and negative influences.
But, this time, fears were issued by US senators and technology experts , who are now warning of the possibility of coordinating a biological attack by artificial intelligence because it is somehow capable of developing dangerous biological weapons. Some deny this matter, relying on the evidence that artificial intelligence, currently, lacks the ability to build a biological weapon independently, and therefore this issue can be classified as a medium-term risk according to Dario Amodei, the chief executive of AI start-up.
In fact , the use of artificial intelligence was limited to cyberwarfare, which includes malware attacks or the impersonation of government officials in order to gain access to critical infrastructure, such as electrical grids or financial and banking systems. But the great powers were not satisfied with this, and they are using artificial intelligence today to develop further physically devastating weapons.
For reference, the artificial intelligence had already been used in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine used the Turkish drone "Bayraktar TB2", which land and practice torture independently of human control. Although the Bayraktar TB2 is capable of autonomous take-off, and launch, it still needs a human operator to decide when to launch the laser-guided bombs.
Nonetheless , according to the Russian authorities, Moscow has autonomous drones called "Lancet" and "Kob" that have been used in Syria and Libya, and such drones were being used in Ukraine too as was reported by Russians .
The race of military artificial intelligence had already begun long ago between America, Russia and China though certain countries like Germany, opposed to it, warning about the danger it may engender .
However, this time, the new fears expressed by senators and technology experts are different because they revolve around the possibility of artificial intelligence revolting and launching an armed biological attack against humans, and this in itself terrifies the hearts as soon as the matter is imagined.
There is no doubt that artificial intelligence has recently invaded all areas of life, and that military technology is now witnessing a real revolution, due to the amazing progress in the field of robotics. The great calamity is that most leaders become more eager to use artificial intelligence in the military field to enhance military capabilities and strategies.
Additionally, at the World Summit on Artificial Intelligence in Switzerland, robots were also present as members and spoke up reassuring humans that they would not steal their jobs and would not rebel against them. We should wonder if this is enough to really reassure humans, or does it raise more concerns especially when the robot thinks and addresses us peer to peer?!!
The unregulated artificial intelligence could get worse if it gets out of control , threatening the entire world. Therefore, rules and laws must be put in place to curb the dangers of weapons or bioweapons and the crazy race funded by the future technology tycoons. Artificial intelligence was improved to optimize our life in all its aspects , but humans greed for further progress may lead to mass destruction and ruining both our life and earth.
