People are social animals. We need to gather and do joint activities. Sadly, this comes with upsides and downsides. Many people are supportive and help us grow. Still, there are plenty who are critical and negative about our success. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid them, which can be detrimental to our mental health. It is simple to say to avoid this kind of people, but it is not always necessary. Your boss might be mean, yet you are stuck in that particular job since you need the money, yet your search for a new place has been stagnant irrespectively of your attempts. The situation is simply horrible.

A person I am glad to have in my life

I am an extremely lucky person in that regard. I came across a fantastic boss who has been supporting my professional development for years. Among his best traits are friendliness and keeping equality. This makes me feel appreciated, and I am not afraid of asking stupid questions (yes, I have done it many times!). Mistakes are part of life. Fearing your boss’s rage will prevent you from trying and taking risks. Over time, this pattern absorbs you, and you doubt yourself in every aspect of life. Likewise, being supported builds your self-esteem and builds the mindset that you need to be creative, which makes you ready to face challenges. Ultimately, you end up successful and satisfied with yourself.

Gratitude improves your mood. It is worth thinking about what you are grateful for. Hardship can blind us about the good things in life.

If you are an employer or at least managing others, remember to be understanding. Try to find out how the other side works. Some people need structure, while others need freedom, or they start feeling claustrophobic. No two people are the same. Do not enforce previous rules; adjust them.

Avoid the rose-tinted glasses

Many self-help books and articles simply claim that you need to choose your circle. It sounds simple — I will just stop replying to messages by an enemy and avoid the area where I might come across them. But what if you are actually stuck in a situation like the one I described at the beginning, where you have to bear with a mean boss but quitting is not a viable option?

In my opinion, one should not expect quick solutions. Toxic positivity is harmful, too. Nobody can fix your life. There are many steps in the journey to achieve it. Giving up and accepting that you are cursed and that your destiny is to suffer is wrong. Look for ways to analyse the situation, other people and most importantly — yourself. It might be that understanding the core reason for the problem would make it more bearable.

The relationship with yourself is the most important one in your life.

Know yourself, your goals, your wishes and your needs. This is what will lead you closer to a happy, fulfilling life.
