Theros Beyond Death My Top 12 Cards.

By nerdtopiade | Nerdtopiade | 13 Jan 2020

First of all I would like to note that this is neither a constructed nor a limited review of the edition. These are my 12 favourite cards from the edition, but I have limited myself to 2 of each colour ! These are not necessarily the strongest cards, but I like them because of the artwork or the mood the cards bring across.

White

Looking for Lands is never wrong, and white has almost no effects that make this possible. There are certainly a few but I can't think of any in mono white. The 0/4 blocker is not bad and you can always use life points.

With Theros many enchantments come in standard format and except for the gods there are no indestructible enchantments. Surely a card that we will see in many sideboards.

Blue

RELEASE THE KRAKEN ! ;-) This little Guy can get very big if you have the Mana to Spend . He brings also a 1/1 Dude everytime you pay the Cost . He also brings 2 Points of Devotion to Blue on the Board . I saved my Wild Cards for him on Magic Arena .

The Old Thassa was great and this is also not Bad 6/5 Indestructible for 4 ill take it in any draft . The triggered ability could be a lot of fun with creatures that have a nice Enter the Battlefield trigger.

Black

In the current standard there are a few creatures with 2 or less strength that you would like to answer early. Level 3 of Entchantment is also not to be sneezed at, now that the escape mechanic is in place.

Have you noticed that there is a Phyrexian Negator in the picture?

For this card alone people will try to play Mono B Devotion again. Even if he is the only black card with black mana symbols on the table, he still sucks 2 lives from his opponent and we get 2 lives.

Fortunately he is now uncommon and no longer common as before, so we will see him less in drafts. As Common he almost won the game alone, you could pick him 3 or 4 times which was not so unlikely as Common.

Red

The artwork reminds me of the demonettes of Slaanesh from Warhammer 40k .Just for that reason alone I like the card.

2/1 for 2 mana is not so spectacular now, but it can take a larger creature with it or take a Planeswalker off the table with it's ability when it dies.

This giant fits well into my Temur Elemental Deck and should be handled upon quickly by the opponent as every turn 3 damage or every turn Light up the Stage is not good.

Green

This card is the Ultimate Manafixing card. Each round you can play an additional land and make any mana you need. If this card was Legendary I wouldn't say anything but no you can have more than 1 of them on the field. I see again 5 color Golos Decks in the standard.

For 3 mana I get a land and a creature in my hand, I think that's not bad, additionally the map increases the escape count. In any case, a solid pick in the Limited and I think it's also playable in Pauper.

Multicolor

Ashiok is actually always a solid Planeswalker. Be it his little brother from War of the Spark or Ashok Nightmare Weaver from Theros. The two Ashioks in the current standard format already together form a nasty little combination.

A Walking Gravediggers Cage with nice Stats for 3 Mana ill take him .He is good against any deck that plays Cauldron Familiar and against decks with Escape .

Those were my 12 favorite cards from Theros Beyond Death. Have fun with the prerelease and always have fun turning  the cards to the right :)
