New 10 Commandments Texas Law

What’s This New Law

We have recently received news that the Texas state senate has approved a bill that would effectively require all schools in the state of Texas to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.

Why is it a Problem?

Personally I am quite surprised that this bill could potentially go into effect due to the largely diverse nature of the US population, Texas included. Many different religions are practiced by many different people in this country, and the state of Texas. While requiring a Christian based text to be displayed, I believe clearly violates freedom of religion. Potentially forcing persons of a non-Christian belief to be made to learn religious beliefs that are not their own.

In conclusion this bill still has not gone into effect as there are still many hurdles this bill has to jump through to be considered “law” I seriously doubt that it will pass, however there seems to be a large amount of support for the bill, so it just may get through. In effect this bill is one more way the government can control parts of people’s lives which constitutionally they are not allowed to control.
