QR CODE – Function, Digital Art, or Both?

QR CODE

The QR CODE system might be surprising to many, has been in use since their original development and introduction for use in 1994. Prior to its introduction, the familiar Bar Code system is the more broadly used means for product identification and tracking.

The QR Code system was developed by DENSO WAVE1 engineers, specifically led by Masahiro Hara and Atsushi Tan as system business solution contributor.

Addressing the subject of Function; the primary impetus for QR code development stemmed from the need by manufactures to incorporate more product information as well, ease and speed of decoding exceeding the capacity of the only available Bar code system. Too, important factors needed to be addressed such as miniaturization of incremental product designs demanding identification; need to address staining and potential damage to applied coding label post application affecting reliable readability. Now to the matter of QR coding as a matter of Digital Art

When first discovering the subject of QR coding the subject intrigued as to its versatility to communicate beyond its original intent; to provide manufacturers an easy, efficient and effective means to identify and tract incremental materiel and complete product from inception to consumers’ end delivery, as needed. To that end, could this be a means to communicate poetry, and by extension to its unique encryption, coding structure: represent as a Digital ART form?

ART

/ərt; ärt when stressed/

noun

1.   The conscious use of the imagination in the production of objects intended to be contemplated or appreciated as beautiful, as in the arrangement of forms, sounds, or words.

2.   Such activity in the visual or plastic arts.
takes classes in art at the college.

3.   Products of this activity; imaginative works considered as a group.
art on display in the lobby.

This led to experimenting with the limitations QR code generation imposed by its restriction to encoding to 7000 characters, scan-ability of resulting QR images, etc.; it surprisingly proved to be reasonably viable for poems even comprised of several stanza.
