In Italy, chrysanthemums are considered the flowers of the deads as they usually bloom in November and on November the 2nd
there is the celebration of the deads and many people bring chrysanthemums to the graveyard.

In my opinion, they are flowers, beautiful flowers, even only because there is a great variety of colors, shapes, and dimensions.
