Castle Greifenstein

On the eastside, high above the deeply cut Holzelfinger valley on a mighty rock, once lay the castle Greifenstein.
The main component of the castle was the keep; a strong tower that rose just beyond the moat.
Everything was crowding there, housing fortifications, storage and prison.
The Greifensteiner, a noble bloodline, dominated with their festivals Greifenstein, Burgstein and Hochbideck the surrounding valleys.
In their coat of arms they led a griffin, wich is based on the mountains.
All too often, the knights mounted in exuberance the Ross to play a joke on the hated Reichstadt in Reutlingen.
In 1311, the Reutlingers were with their patience at the end and destroyed next to Hochbideck and Burgstein and the castle Greifenstein.
The knightly race was already so impoverished that it could not rebuild the ruined castle.
Today only the ruin with ring wall can be seen.
