Asian giant Nintendo has revealed it's holiday sales figures for the Nintendo switch in the quarterly Elearnings report. The report includes sales figures for it's best selling game consoles which has been updated. The company over the last quarter sold 10.8 million units of the hybrid console. This huge sale was made possible by the release of the Nintendo switch and switch lite, which is a hand held only version. The switch lite was released into the market on September 20th, 2019.
The additional sales of the switch lite console brought the overall or total sales to a whopping 53 million, thus placing it above the 49 million lifetime sales ever made by the popular game console, the SNES.
The Nintendo switch release coincided with the launching of the land mark title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game was met with rave reviews and is in fact considered one of the greatest of all time, going on to sell more than 16.3 million copies. Other best selling titles include Pokemon Sword & Shield (16 million), Super Mario Odyssey (16.6 million), Super Smash Bros Ultimate (17.7 million) and the current number one bestseller, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (23 million).
The SNES is a 16-bit console released in 1990. Till today, it remains the favorite video game console of all time. It came with awesome library of video games that includes Super Mario World, Star Fox, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger and one of my all-time faves, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. A miniature version called The SNES Classic was also released in 2017, which came with a total of 21 pre-installed games, including the previously-unreleased title, Star Fox 2.
