Trippier was undersold

By Pompeybrum44 | My Football Thoughts | 18 Jul 2019

A few days ago Kieran Trippier completed a move to Atletico Madrid for around £20 million. Trippier moving away wasn’t the surprise in this deal as many had expected this to happen after a ‘poorer’ season with Spurs, however, to leave for £20 million in this transfer market was.

Just over a year ago, Trippier was seen as a hero to many England fans as we saw his free-kick go in again Croatia in the world cup semi-final. The expectation for the season ahead was massive, and Trippier was on the cusp of being a national hero.

One year later, he is out of favour with Tottenham and is no longer the starting right-back for England. This has been a fall from grace however, to leave for £20 million in a market where players such as Chilwell and Maguire are going for at least twice the amount is ridiculous. It isn’t even like Trippier’s contract was running out as he was still contracted for 3 more years.

I love Potch as a manager but for me, letting him leave for such a small amount is such a mistake.
