The United States has now begun inoculating its residents with Pfize’s Covid-19 vaccine
After, becoming the first ever Covid-19 vaccine to kickstart inoculating UK’s population last week, the Pfize vaccine this week enters US where healthcare worker, ICU nurse, Sandra Lindsay is the first US resident to be vaccinated against Covid-19 on Monday, in New York’s Long Island Jewish Medical Centre.
This episode was celebrated with applause, with New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo being part of this occasion via livestream.
Pfize’s vaccine becomes the first Covid-19 vaccine to be approved for use in the World
The Pfize vaccine, developed by Pfize in collaboration with its German partner BioNtech becomes the first ever Covid-19 vaccine to be rolled out in the world as it succeeded in winning approval for use by respective drug regulatory authorities of the UK and USA who were satisfied with the evidence submitted by Pfize in form of it’s clinical trial study reports that had data to prove that the Covid-19 vaccine is 95% effective in preventing the occurrence of Covid-19 in those administered with the vaccine.
Delivery of Pfize’s Covid-19 vaccine to designated vaccine-staging areas
Immediately, after Pfize vaccine won approval for emergency use case on Friday, arrangements were made for transportation of around 2.9 million vaccines to distribution centers across the US from Pfize’s facility located in Kulamazoo, Michigan. The Pfize covid-19 vaccine needs to be stored at sub arctic temperatures of -70 celsius ,that is -94 fahrenheit, therefore it was packed with lots of dry-ice and then transported.
FedEx and UPS flew these Pfize/BioNtech Covid-19 vaccines to Louisville and Memplis where their respective facilities are located. From here these vaccines were further taken by trucks and planes to be delivered to designated initial 145 vaccine - staging areas across the country. More rounds of vaccine shipments would take place in the coming days to deliver vaccines to other sites that are to receive these vaccines.
