For years I have been forgetting to wish my Prabha Chithi happy birthday due to some preoccupation or other. ‘Chithi’ in my tamil language culture alludes to one’s mother’s younger sister. Being of my Mom’s generation, she’s like a mother herself to me; her niece who she knew since I was little.
This time, I made up for not wishing my Prabha Chithi all these years by making a customised birthday greeting card for her.
Inspirational ideas behind the themes powering the words on the Birthday Card
Customized cards from me are something really special because the person has to inspire me enough to get me to write something unique about them from my heart, my style.
Last year I made customized cards for my Brother and sister-in-law for all their birthdays, anniversary and their childrens’ 1st birthday which I could do, getting a sense of what was dear and true for them at that time(which was their cute babies and the novel experience of parenthood).
For my Prabha Chithi the customized card I made for her was inspired by my own understanding of her.
A Brief about my Prabha Chithi
She’s fun, kind, loving and a positive spirited individual.
More than anything she’s an inspiring character.
From a young age, she’s been suffering, first hit with polio so since the age of 5, she was not able to walk. Yet despite her struggles, she always kept herself engaged, worked and earned for herself and took care of her parents.
She was saved from getting married to a serial fraudster who had a habit of marrying women, stealing all their money and ultimately ditching them.
Later, she had other health issues, and her parents, i.e, my grandparents left the world so she had to live all by herself.
It’s been 18 years since she’s been living by herself, wheelchair bound, coping with all her health problems but even after all that, my Prabha chithi stays happy and is always a fun person to spend time with. Beautiful is she not?.
Meaningful aspects of Prabha Chithi that I portrayed in the card
No wonder she has lots of friends whose worth she has acknowledged stating that if it were not for them, she would not have survived even one day.
Humble and modest, smart, practical, kind and forgiving also.
She’s always filled with enthusiasm to celebrate functions, arranging for delicious, simple food for guests, keeping the house organised and clean. She’s a good manager and a sweet person…
So, with this understanding of her, I made her a customised card, which shows the positive side of her rather than her life’s struggles.
My gratitude for the kindness she showed to me at difficult times
I also know that my Prabha chithi genuinely cares and loves me unlike many other relatives who don’t. She definitely deserved a customised birthday card from me.
I will never forget that she was always there for me, last year when my household had to undergo very difficult and troubled times. Her sympathy and concern, powered me to deal with the crisis the best way I could, it was like a balm to my wounded spirit.
