Sinfonia concertante for String Orchestra: II. Choralfantasie (Scrolling Score) [Philip Daniel; 2017]

By PhilipDaniel | Musica Melopoetica | 22 Oct 2020

The second of five movements of a "Sinfonia concertante" in an expressionist / late romantic idiom for string orchestra. A somber, tenebrous fantasy on the Lutheran chorale "Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir" ("From deep affliction I cry out to you"), a paraphrase of Psalm 130, ultimately resolving itself into a heroic statement of the incipit of the chorale "Jesu, meine Freude" ("Jesus, my joy").

You may find the engraved "conductor's score" here.
