First a glance at the distant past

Let’s speak very short, about another famous Persian old scholar named Khayam. Omar Khayyam  (18 May 1048 – 4 December 1131) was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet. He was born in Nishapur, in northeastern Persia, and was contemporary with the rule of the Seljuks around the time of the First Crusade.

As a mathematician, he is most known for his work on the “classification and solution of cubic equations”. He has provided geometric solutions by the intersection of conics. Khayyam also contributed to the understanding of the parallel axiom. I’m not an expert in any of those but I’ve heard of him to be a very renowned personality not just in Iran, but around the world.

So much that when Edward FitzGerald or Fitzgerald as an English poet and writer translated his poem, got very famous over that. FitzGerald's most famous poem is the first and best-known English translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, which has kept its reputation and popularity since the 1860s.

Tombak

The Tombak or Tonbak, is an Iranian goblet drum, considered the principal percussion instrument of Persian music.

The tombak is normally positioned diagonally across the torso while the player uses one or more fingers and/or the palm on the drumhead, often near the drumhead's edge.

Naqareh

A Middle Eastern drum with a rounded back and a hide head, usually played in pairs. It is thus a membranophone of the kettle drum variety. 

Daf & Dayereh

Both Daf & Dayereh are two very popular instruments being used in Persian classical music.

The Daf is a large Kurdish and Persian frame drum used in popular and classical music. It is also used in religious ceremonies among Kurds. The Daf is considered the national musical instrument of Pakistan.

A dayereh is a medium-sized frame drum with jingles, used to accompany both popular and classical music in Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Bukharan Jews, Azerbaijan, the Caucasus, the Balkans, and many Central Asian countries such as Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Setar

A setar, also spelled and romanized as setaar or setâr, is an Iranian musical instrument. It is a member of the lute family. It is played with the index finger of the right hand. The range of the setar spans more than two and a half octaves.

Kamancheh

A very popular Iranian bowed string instrument used in Persian, Azerbaijani, and Kurdish music. The instrument is related to the rebab which is the historical ancestor of the kamancheh and the bowed Byzantine Lyra. The strings are played with a variable-tension bow.
