  El día de ayer 20 de abril se cumplieron 25 años desde la presentación de Windows 98 en el evento COMDEX que llevo a cabo en la ciudad de las Vegas desde 1979 al 2003. En 1998 Microsoft aprovecharía para presentar una versión preliminar de su sistema Windows 98, fue memorable esa ocasión pues mientras Bill Gates y Chris Capossela mientras presentaban el sistema este falló presentando la famosa pantalla azul o BSOD que indica que ya no hay nada que hacer, Windows ha entrado en un estado crítico y no queda más remedio que reiniciar.

  Es comprensible que en aquel entonces Windows 98 todavía estuviera en una etapa preliminar y fallara, sin embargo aquel incidente pasaría a la historia como uno de los momentos más bochornosos de la historia de Microsoft. Aquí vemos la presentación en cuestión.

¿Qué novedades trajo Windows 98?

  Windows 98 es la evolución de Windows 95, al igual que su antecesor presenta una interfaz gráfica muy similar, pero con diversas mejoras. Integra por completo el navegador web Internet Explorer con el sistema operativo, mejoras en el reconocimiento de dispositivos (precisamente lo que ocasionó el pantallazo azul), nuevos modelos de drivers, poder compartir una conexión a internet entre varios equipos y muchas características más.

  Sin embargo también fue un sistema bastante inestable, en lo personal me tocó vivir varios pantallazos azules y hasta tener que reinstalar el sistema operativo completo por apagar el sistema con la unidad de cd abierta (Windows 98 ya no iniciaba), también sufrió el problema de  Winnuke mediante el cuál era posible remotamente causar un BSOD a otro equipo, entre problemas.

Conclusiones:

  Windows 98 fue un paso adelante en la evolución de los sistemas operativos, sin embargo este sistema fue célebre por el incidente ya comentado, además de otros fallos que acompañaron al sistema a lo largo de su ciclo de vida. What novelties did Windows 98 bring?

  Windows 98 is the evolution of Windows 95, like its predecessor it presents a very similar graphical interface, but with several improvements. It fully integrates the Internet Explorer web browser with the operating system, improvements in device recognition (precisely what caused the blue screen), new driver models, being able to share an Internet connection between several computers and many more features.

  However, it was also a fairly unstable system, personally I had to experience several blue screens and even having to reinstall the entire operating system due to turning off the system with the cd drive open (Windows 98 no longer started), it also suffered the problem of Winnuke through which it was possible to remotely cause a BSOD to another computer, between problems.

Conclusions:

  Windows 98 was a step forward in the evolution of operating systems, however this system was famous for the aforementioned incident, as well as other failures that accompanied the system throughout its life cycle.
