Zombie bunker well not quite but, a bunker built on the order of Francisco Franco between 1940 and 1944. One of over 500 that were built as part of the fortifications by Gibraltar. The bunkers and other fortifications were built by prisoners.

It was claimed that the fortifications were to defend Spain from an Alied invasion. But, many believed they were built to stage an attack on Gibraltar. Franco did have plans to invade Gibraltar but, did not want to loose assets in Africa.

The fortifications were included in Nazi Germans plans to invade Gibraltar in January 1941 known as Operation Felix.

No shots were fired and the bunker and other fortifications were abandoned. It is not easy to find information about them.

The bunker is the picture is/was used by a restaurant as a storage room. But, a recent storm has significantly damaged the bunker that had stood intact for about 80 years.

Along the beach it is possible to see a further two bunkers and some sort of barracks complete with a well. It is well worth a visit. It is possible and quite easy to go inside the bunkers.
