Thieves of illusion

By Duvinca | The world, the life & me | 18 Nov 2020

We all have dreams and illusions that we would like to achieve, but there are usually people around us who boycott our plans.

When do we dream more and with more hope? Well, normally when we are little, at this time nothing seems impossible to us, we feel capable of everything and that everything can be achieved very easily, why not? We have a long time ahead of us and, above all, a total motivation ... yes, the one that comes from ourselves without any type of external conditioner, because we do not take into account our surroundings ... but there are those who do, who? mainly parents or teachers. In many cases it is common to hear them say that being an artist or a philosopher is silly. They also sign you up for private English and music classes ... trying to develop your intellect as much as possible, although they also point us to ballet or karate, yes, but usually so that we can manage socially and become fat children. And as we come up with ideas, we plan and draw our dreams, and we inform our parents hoping they will agree but without knowing yet what they really think about our occurrences. And when the University time arrives they will tell us that we have to enroll in Telecommunications, Engineering, Medicine, Law or Business ... it's the best for us.

And that's how it goes, we stop dreaming and when we go to school there we think, learn things and how the world is going, and we know what we like the most and what we least. There are teachers who help us to be passionate by something that perhaps we could be good at or teachers will discover us new things that make us feel alive and curious. But the moment to decide is coming… another topic / debate is, do we decide too early or too late? Do we have all the information, training and support? And above all, do we ignore our vocation? Do we know what really suits us for our lives?

In the end, we study what it seems we have to study because they tell us what to do to succeed, what works and what there will be work for. Although after all those promises that they make to us, we realize that we have set aside something inside that we will always be missing, our work (and personal) path will often limp because of that repressed inner vocation. Plus, given today's employment landscape, has sacrificing our vital decision been worth it? Have we really won with the "consequential" election?

Well, if we are lucky, we will end up working, we will have a job like any other in which we will be paid, better or worse, but we will have our professional career, we will adapt to the life that we have made ourselves believe these years is the one we have chosen. Is that so?

We will try to take things well, perform our functions as well as possible, we will want to learn, improve and thus be able to grow and progress. We make the effort to re-motivate ourselves in our real reality, but here we are also surrounded by more people who seem in charge of dismantling any vital project that we are having ... who? some bosses, or being more global, managers. There are some who instead of doing their job as they should, that is, leading and managing a team of professionals, become micromanagers.

And what is a micromanager? Surely you can know, if these situations sound familiar to you:

-A boss who does not delegate, much less trust in your abilities, wants to control everything you do and will question it.

-A boss who will make you waste time on superfluous and trivial things, which he considers non-negotiable but which will not contribute to change or improve any result.

-A boss who makes decisions out of outburst, for no reason or personal reason, such as choosing a favorite without knowing anyone or their achievements, or rejecting an offer or proposal out of pride.

-A boss you can't trust, because you know he can lie.

-A boss who instead of making a team makes others look askance.

-A boss who doesn't stop saying how good he is at everything, is very ambitious but only with his own professional career.

-A boss who tells you to do something and then doesn't pay more attention. Or he asks you for an almost impossible but does not let you explain, he is only interested in their numbers but not your words.

-A boss who leaves you waiting without knowing when he will be available for your urgency or who does not care if you have life afterwards because since he does not have it, he assumes that you will be there.

-A boss who only looks at who is warming up the chair after the hour, glorifying the one who laughs thanks and crucifying the one who has finished everything and is gone.

-A boss who always plays the same jokes on you that are not funny in front of others and who then doesn't even say hello to you.

-A boss who won't help you and from whom you won't learn much, except how a boss shouldn't be.

And there will be more ... but in summary, these are bad bosses, those who demotivate you, that no matter how hard you try and try to do everything in the best way, they make your days go on without end and above all without purpose, because you know in advance that your merits will not be worth to ascend or simply to continue there, but only your opinion will be worth.

It is what there is, but what we can do is identify those people who, frontally or slyly, steal the illusions and plans that we are creating and then, stand firm, fight and regardless of no matter who, never stop dreaming about what what do you want.
