"Sometimes not getting what you want can be a stroke of luck".
I have heard this phrase from my mother on some occasion, when something happened that we would not have expected but later, with enough distance that gives us the time to see and understand things better, you realize that in the end it had to be well, less bad.
I say thank goodness because many times we make plans, we set ourselves goals and we impose ourselves goals, almost inflexibly. We think we know what we want and we go for it, but do we really know what we want?
What we want, it can be... although in fact it is not so easy to know well. Throughout the days and years we accumulate desires, we discard some and achieve others while new ones always arise. We are thus building the life that we supposedly want. Endless wishes.
But are all these wishes and goals what really suits us? Are those he best we can choose and do? Are there other options? How do we know? John Lennon already said: "Life is what happens to you while you make plans". And so it seems to happen.
We can't control everything, sometimes we can't control anything, really. We feel that events surprise us, dislodge us and take us where they want and we are dragged along without knowing how the situation will end. We have all seen each other at times like this. That uncertainty gives some fear, losing direction and even more letting go of the reins.
Life surprises me and changes all my plans, it happens to me very frequently and for years it seems that it is a cluster of these ups and downs... Curiously hard, stressful and frustrating days can turn into a blessing. Despite what it seemed then, now with time perspective we realize that we can really feel lucky.
We got not what we wanted but what was best for us for some reason... who knows. It happens...
Sometimes you have to open your mind and row to where the present time takes you and God or the universe will take care of blowing in your favor even if you get angry at first. Then you know that you will end up giving thanks in situations like this where "not getting what you want is a stroke of luck." Thanks.
