In France, every 1st of may it is a tradition to give the flower Lilly of the Valley (muguet in French) to your friends and family. It is significance of good luck, and a sign of appreciation to the person you offer it!
It all started in the 1500s on a 1st of May, when King Charles IX was offered this flower when visiting a village in France. He liked this flower so much that he decided to offer this flower every 1st of may to the people he appreciated the most.
This tradition stayed up until today! In France, you can sell this flower on the street on the 1st of May tax free and without any kind of permit!
I really love this tradition and I always go “hunting” for them around this day in order to give it to my friends and family! They are very abundant in the forest all around France!
