The problem with straws is that, unlike your lips, which give you adequate forewarning of the temperature of the liquid you are about to put in your mouth, you can't cautiously sip from a straw any more than you can cautiously jump off a cliff. Yes, you can do your research on what is in the cup before you drink it, just as you can research the currents in the water into which you are about to jump, but I can guarantee you will learn something new when sipping/plunging into the depths...

Or will you, perhaps someone who know everything there is to know about the drink they are about to drink, knows also the experience of drinking? Well, I disagree. I think this illusion is brought about by a problem of language, where knowledge is causally used to refer to experience. "I know what it's like to do something" can be used to mean "I have experience d said thing" but also "I have considered the factors of doing this thing and imagined the impact on my senses" - and that's unfortunate. Just as it is unfortunate that experience is sometimes conflated with and dumbed down to "sense data" (it is obviously more than that). Someone who knows everything about the drink they are about to drink learns nothing new when they drink it, but this is because experience is not learning. There is a distinct difference between knowing something and experiencing it. Imagine knowing your girlfriend is cheating on you. That is separate from experiencing it, emotionally for instance. Knowledge is by definition NOT emotion, perception and the good stuff in life, it is a barren extrapolation from life. I was burned, so I now know that something is hot. I experienced it, and also learnt it the hard way, but those two occurrences are, though related, separate. And experience is and must be prior to knowledge. We  cannot know that a drink is hot a priori, we can only know that it is approximately 100 degrees, because we saw it boiling a short while ago and we have a set of things we believe in a priori. A drink is only hot a posteriori.
