Timor Hybrid
Also known as "Tim Tim" throughout Latin America, the Timor Hybrid is a genetically unique and historically significant coffee variety discovered on the Island of Timor in 1920. As the first waves of coffee leaf rust virus began to sweep across the Eastern hemisphere during the 19th century, the arabica varieties most susceptible to the blight were increasingly substituted with the far hardier and resistant C. canephora species, particularly in the Southwest Pacific where one can find the Island of Timor. It was here that, among a mixed stand of C. arabica and C. canephora, that the two species hybridized to form the Timor Hybrid. The hybridization of such species to produce viable offspring is not only exceptionally rare, but it revolutionized the development of CLR-resistant coffee varieties. Although still not as smooth and flavorful as true arabicas, the Timor Hybrid is capable of replicating the more pleasant aspects of arabica varieties while still maintaining much of the disease resistance afforded to C. canephora. The variety's legacy lives on today through the Catimor and Sarchimor lineages.

As always, feedback on this project as well as suggestions for future works are always appreciated. Thank you!
