Over the past week, Optimism (OP) has experienced a remarkable surge, with its price increasing by 43.40%. Technical indicators such as the Average Directional Index (ADX) and Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) signal that the bullish trend driving this rally remains strong. However, as OP approaches critical resistance levels, questions arise about whether it can sustain its momentum or face a significant correction.

OP's Bullish Momentum: A Closer Look

At present, the ADX for Optimism stands at 28.7, a dramatic rise from 15 just one day earlier. The ADX measures trend strength, with values above 25 indicating a robust trend, and those below 20 suggesting weakness or absence of a trend. This sharp increase in ADX reflects the rally's growing strength and suggests further upward potential.

Additional insights from the directional indices reveal a strong bullish advantage. The positive directional index (D+) for OP is at 38.8, far exceeding the negative directional index (D-) at 9.37, underscoring significant bullish pressure over bearish activity.

Declining Active Addresses: A Potential Red Flag

While technical indicators point to bullish momentum, on-chain data reveals a contrasting signal. The 7-day moving average of daily active addresses on the Optimism network has decreased to 14,200 as of November 21. This is a notable decline from its annual peak of 26,300 addresses recorded on October 13. Active addresses are a key indicator of network demand, and their decline could imply waning user interest, which might lead to reduced buying pressure on OP.

Price Outlook: Can OP Break $3?

Looking ahead, Optimism faces critical resistance levels at $2.55 and $3.04. Breaking through $3.04 would pave the way to $3.41, a level not seen since April. The EMA indicators lend credence to this optimistic scenario, with short-term EMAs positioned above long-term ones, highlighting strong upward momentum.

However, the bullish trend is not without risks. A reversal could subject OP to significant selling pressure, testing key support levels at $1.82 and $1.53. Should these fail, the price could drop as low as $1.06.

Conclusion

Optimism's price rally is underpinned by strong technical indicators, suggesting the potential for further gains. However, the decline in active addresses raises concerns about sustained demand. Whether OP can break through the $3 resistance or face a correction depends on its ability to maintain bullish momentum and attract renewed network activity.
