Something like that

Avax: No Longer "Off the Grid"

Avalanche based FPS Off the Grid has raised $30 million ahead of a release on all major normie console platforms.

If you know what's been hap'nin over at Avax, you'd realize what this means. It means Avax is without a doubt the web3 gaming L1 most well positioned to bring in web2 normies.

Unless something very strange happens, gaming will be the narrative to expand web3 into the retail space this bull cycle. Nearly all other narratives — defi, restaking, RWA, DePIN, L2/L3 — rely on gaming to actually expand beyond the core web3 natives who are just redistributing money around PvP style.

I will say that Base memes are garnering the support of the zeitgeist as well. With Coinbase's ability to immediately legitimise even the dumbest crap whenever it wants to millions of unsuspecting noobs, it can't be discounted. But if you really want to know what's about to blow under the hood, it's Avax, Avax, Avax.

The Tech

The burning question is this: How will Off the Grid close the technical gap between web3 Avax gamers and web2 PS gamers who hate NFTs and likely would reject them even if it was super easy to onboard?

Goes back to my premise over this whole bull market — change will be imposed upon web2 gamers, not accepted by them. If Off the Grid is really the AAA shooter web3 thinks it is, it will Trojan NFTs into web2 and force them to accept them if they want to play. And if the game is popular enough, they will comply.

The actual "specifics of these mechanics" is, of course, "confidential" in the latest statement from Gunzilla. So much for web3 ushering in a new age of transparency and accountability. 😂 But I do see the logic in not saying everything out of fear of being frontrun.

The Money

$30M for Off the Grid marketing is enough to start to compete in the web2/web3 crossover niche. Web3 gamers will be DAOing up and playing hardcore, which today is enough of a critical mass to draw in normie players.

Once the first wave of normies come in, guided by Dr. Disrespect, it's game over for all that "we're too good for NFTs" talk. Avax doesn't have the capricious fees of Ethereum, and the tech has improved enough to mask the fact NFTs are being used to the players that don't want to interact with them from a web3 perspective.

The Chain

Once the first wave of normies falls to Off the Grid, it's go time for the rest of the Avax gaming community. Smart money has been frontrunning this narrative for about a month now. Once people see the organization of @GamingOnAvax and @CultureOnAvax behind other good games like Megaweapon and Shrapnel, the sky's the limit.

Avax has everything it needs to build the L1 gaming chain moat around itself, especially with its connection to Beam. There really is no other chain with the headstart and the gravitas necessary to take full advantage of the gaming narrative, which is sure to bring the majority of retail money into crypto this cycle. Behave accordingly.
