On the 20th of October this year, while Nigerians are protesting for a better life, better education and overall upgrading of the standard of life. The Nigerian army rode to their protest ground, that is, the lekki toll gate and opened fire on armless citizens protesting with just placards, the Nigerian flag and their mats because, they sleep over till the next day out in the cold.
The theme of the protest was "Endsars". SARS is a unit in the police force that stands for Special Anti-robbery Squad, but how they operate is the opposite of their function. They size you up to see if you are young, good looking (that is with the gold chains, cars, and expensive , handsome and rich, you'll be extorted or possibly killed if you don't meet up with their exorbitant request. This action has been reported over and over again, from various victims across the nation to the highest in authority, hoping for things to change, but no, they worsened. This brought about the protest coupled with the non existent standard of living.
On that fateful day, they woke up as usual, with their placards to demand their right to freedom of speech, the freedom to dress however they like without being suspected of fraudulent acts, but instead they were shot with guns bought with their own sweat through the tax they pay, with everyone denying the sanction of such act.
CNN aired the news raw without filters and the details intact. Then the Nigerian government tried to shut them down just as they've done with the local stations in nigeria with lies and threat. But the CNN stood their ground with a back up of fully analyzed and double checked evidence of the live video when the shooting took place.
Tony a graduate of business administration, aged 24, died during the protest with others missing. The Nigerian army denies shooting a live ammunition at the scene, while the government are concerned about the rate of the exposure of the incident. The hash tag is no longer #ENDSARS or #WHOORDEREDTHESHOOTING but #ENDBADGOVERNANCE.
