With the announcement that the IRD (Inland Revenue Department - NZ) is moving to start taxing crypto holders, it seems like there is zero reason for me to continue using crypto based platforms. There is little merit in these platforms due to the inability to do anything with the meagre tokens I do hold.
I've not made this decision to leave lightly. I want to keep blogging and building a following but truthfully there is little merit in doing so on platforms like Hive and Publish0x.
I tried Substack but honestly it's lack of an algorithm is becoming a massive pain super quickly. So I've decided to go back to good old Wordpress, that stable of stable blogging platforms.
From now on all my posting will be done over at:

I'm not expecting anyone to follow me but this post is essentially to highlight why I feel now is the time I need to make this move.
Winter is coming
I've not hidden my views on cryptocurrency in the past. I feel that while it is a brilliant idea, the actual execution is a pathetic minefield.
Anyone who gets into crypto thinking they'll make it big is somewhat deluded. You'll have to do a lot of trading and that's not something I find interesting to me. Also, getting this up and running then mocking the governments of the world seemed like a super bad idea and it didn't take long for the SEC and the likes to get involved.
If crypto is to survive then it needs to play by world rules not by its own and that's why I'm out. I have no desire to get caught in the fall of Babylon that is going to happen if crypto doesn't start working with governments.
I still think the world needs a global currency but it's not going to come about without UN involvement and I don't see that happening too soon, not with the world crumbling around us anyway.
Engagement
General topics don't really seem to do well in a crypto world. I never see any engagement on my posts, except for the few followers I do have and that's only some times. In fact in all my posts there's only really about 7 comments, one since I started writing about getting on a motorcycle again after an almost 10 year hiatus.
I write because I want to invoke something in someone enough to start conversations and yet that doesn't seem to happen.
I do get that from time to time with Wordpress so that's one reason I'm going back.
The world is burning
With the rising cost of living, it might seem getting rid of a potential income as being a bad idea, but the truth is I'm not making any form of money with crypto. Like I said, I'm not trading and what little crypto I do have is too small to make the conversion worth doing. I'd actually be losing money selling my crypto off. This is because of another issue I have with crypto... fees. When the fee is worth more than the token then there's something obviously wrong with the system and thus it's not worth my effort.
I have better things to worry about rather than whether or not my blog posts are getting crypto. I'd much rather have the potential to earn real life money with Wordpress and Ko-Fi than deal with crypto.
I will still support you
To those who I follow I will still support you. I follow you for a reason and it's because you have something interesting to say and I support that.
I will tip all articles I read, except the ones that are flame bait.
Just realise that I won't be hanging out here as much as I have been in terms of writing because my efforts will be going into Wordpress and YouTube.
I have learned a lot about crypto since 2019 when I first joined Steem, then Hive, the Publish0x, then read.cash. It's just that what I've learned isn't really worth my time and effort.
